My grandfather
Written by: Alejandra González
In 1942, Mexico army was fighting in Germany because they had sunk Mexican oil tankers, and Mexico signed the first trade agreement with the United States containing the most favored nation clause for Mexico. That was the year that my grandfather was born more specifically on November 15th in the village The Oro, his name was Leopoldo Gutierrez Martinez, and he was a mechanic because when he was a child he loves the cars and the motorcycles. He left school when he finished primary school. His parents never loved him, so my grandfather left the Oro and arrived at Toluca when he was a teenager. When he arrived here, he stayed with his uncle and aunt but not all was perfect, he had searched for a job, so his first job was washing cars at his uncle’s friend business and so he began to earn money, he had this job until he was 20. When he was 21 years old, he met my grandmother, and they fall in love at the same time. In 1962 they married, and they had the first child.
My grandfather loved his daughter. His second job was as an apprentice in a mechanic shop and there he started saving to build his own shop. He bought his house when he was an adult here in the center of Toluca. After years, he bought the mechanic shop where he worked. He had more sons seven to be exact. He was very calm, happy, and loved the life that God had given him, my grandfather was a great believer of God. He was 41 years old; he became grandfather for first time. When my grandparent was elderly, he got sick, but he never told anyone so when he had 63 years old, he died. I miss him.
